Seriously?  They call this racy?

Pictures were emailed to Times Leader in response to story about police special detail program.

WILKES-BARRE — City Police Chief Gerard Dessoye is investigating circumstances of a picture that depicts a woman about to lick the badge of a police detective, city spokesman Drew McLaughlin said Monday.

Three pictures were emailed to The Times Leader over the weekend in response to a story about the city police department’s special detail program, which involves off-duty police officers working security for private businesses and school events.

One of the pictures clearly shows a city police detective wearing a Wilkes-Barre Police Department uniform standing face to face with a woman who is about to lick his badge.

The picture shows the former Hardware Bar on South Main Street in the background.

The Hardware Bar has since been renamed Susquehanna Ale House.

The two other pictures show a scantily clad woman squatting and grabbing the radio antenna on the rear of a police cruiser, and another scantily clad woman lying across the hood of a cruiser.

McLaughlin said those two pictures appear to have been taken in another city, perhaps Scranton.

It remains unknown when the pictures were taken or who took the pictures.

“Wilkes-Barre Police Chief Gerard Dessoye is investigating the circumstances surrounding these photos,” McLaughlin said in an email.

“Upon initial review, judging by the type of uniform worn by the officer and the lack of a wireless antenna for the RMS system on the vehicle, we believe it to be at minimum a year old. Furthermore, the police chief believes there was no criminal misconduct by our officer but he appears to have violated departmental regulations. Upon determining the full facts of the case, appropriate disciplinary action will be administered by the chief.”

Chief: Suspicious package at Springettsbury Township Walmart was empty toolbox

Police officers and firefighters responded to the Walmart in Springettsbury Township this afternoon after a report that a suspicious package had been found there, according to York County 911.

The item turned out to be an empty toolbox, Springettsbury Township Police Chief Thomas Hyers said.

Earlier in the afternoon, officers cordoned off an area of the store’s parking lot, forcing several customers who were trying to reach cars in that section to wait.

Officers removed the tape just after 1 p.m. and the store was allowed to re-open.

The abstract for a study conducted by three French researchers and published in the journal Psychology of Music has a rather dry way of putting it:

This experiment tested the assumption that music plays a role in sexual selection. Three hundred young women were solicited in the street for their phone number by a young male confederate who held either a guitar case or a sports bag in his hands or had no bag at all. Results showed that holding a guitar case was associated with greater compliance to the request, thus suggesting that musical practice is associated with sexual selection.

… or how about just buying an empty guitar case and walk around with it?  I mean guys lie to get laid all the time anyway—why not just lie about playing the guitar?

‘Cat in the Hat’ stolen from Spring Garden Township yard

Spring Garden Township Police are seeking a 5-foot tall "Cat in the Hat" figure stolen from the front yard of a home, according to a news release issued Thursday.

Police said the figure was stolen between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday from a home in the 1200 block of South Albemarle Street. The cat is estimated at about $25.
